HAPPY EARTH DAY 2019! (instapost)

It’s earth day and it's one of the most important days of the year where most of us are more aware of our planet, our climate and the problems this planet will face in terms of climate change if we don’t take any proper actions. I’m sure my friends will tell you all about what you can do to play a significant role in preventing climate change (check out my stories!) but I’d like to briefly tell you what researchers are doing to prevent climate change.


 1: SOLAR RADIATION MANAGEMENT (SRM) This an attempt to reflect the sun's rays away from the Earth and thus reduce global warming. Types of this include giant space mirrors, solar geoengineering, stratospheric aerosol injection, cloud thinning, ocean mirror effect and marine cloud brightening.

 All of these techniques require a lot of regulation and consideration about the consequences on each continent and country before they are used on a large scale because some of the above methods have the potential to drastically change the planet's weather patterns. 2: CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE (CCS) We know that carbon dioxide (CO2) produced from fossil fuels is one of the most potent greenhouse gasses which play a part in warming the planet, so researchers are trying to find methods to extract excess carbon dioxide from our air and stored below the Earth’s surface, thus preventing it from entering the Earth’s atmosphere.

These are the two main roads researchers are going down as an alternative, larger scale methods in trying to stop global temperatures from rising. However, just because these are being tested, doesn't mean we give up on doing our own bit for the planet, including recycling and switching to sustainable materials etc... This will always be an ongoing process for us and many generations to come.
